I am against the government & big brother having more control over my personal choices, but today I am an advocate for banning all cell phone use while driving.
It is only a short drive from Coeur d’Alene to Liberty Lake via Interstate 90, but today it took me extra time to get there because…you guessed it…someone on their cell phone driving 60 in the passing lane and had cars backed up for a mile because…semi truck in right hand lane was actually going the posted speed limit which for trucks is 65.
Now this probably wouldn’t have bothered me so much if this was an isolated incident for the day, but it was not. On the return trip a small blue Saturn (with the back license plate so dirty you couldn’t even tell where he was from) was on his phone as I tried to merge onto I90 from Liberty Lake. It was all clear in the other lane for him to move over, but instead he acts like he doesn’t even see me and actually slows down, then speeds up as I try to get on. He of course looks at me like I am some idiot woman driver. Then I get to follow this moron for several more miles and watch as he dials his phone not once, but two more times. He crossed over the outer lane and the middle lane on several occasions and couldn’t find a steady speed to save his life. Thank goodness an opening finally appeared so I could pass the idiot.
Just as I think I am home free to make a quick return home-silver Saturn with young woman on her cell phone driving in the passing lane. Now I am not sure this is a pattern isolated to only Saturn drivers, but if I was doing a poll 2 out of 3 would be a pretty convincing statistic to show people;)
I did make it home safe, a bit rattled and irritated, but this rant will help to clear it out of my mind.
So in closing…where do I sign to get cell phones while driving banned? (That is until the next time I need to make a call while driving LOL.)
